Tanner’s Big Girl Bed

If you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories, you know that recently we decided to give Tanner a chance in the toddler bed. We originally said we were going to wait to move her into the toddler portion of her 4 in 1 crib until she started trying to climb out.

WELL ….

We were waiting for the bigger room to be painted to move Tanner in there so we could use the smaller room for baby boy Memons nursery. Faheem came home from work one day and said “OK I’m going to move her furniture now”. I of course tried to stop him because I’m just not emotionally ready for all of this. It makes it that much more real that there is going to be another baby in the house for us to take care of. AND it just makes it more real that Tanner is indeed becoming a big girl. (cue the tears!)

In order to move the crib successfully we had to take the crib rail off, so I told Faheem, before he puts it back on lets have Tanner see the bed and see what she thinks of it. Well she was obsessed with it! She was super excited and was lying down and everything! So we knew she would be OK. So we put on the toddler rail and stood back and hust watched . She kept climbing on and off! Again, she was so excited! It hasn’t even been a week since she’s been in the bed but so far its been hit or miss.

The 1st night she woke up an hour after we put her down, however she went right back to sleep. The 2nd night, she went down and then 2 hours later woke up and was wide awake for about 4 hours. I ended up just bringing her into bed with me and letting her fall back asleep in there after trying to get her back down in her bed failed. Once she was knocked out in our bed, it was easy transferring her. The next night the same thing happened, she woke up an hour and a half after putting her down and she did not want to go back to sleep. So again, we pulled her into our bed and let her fall asleep there and then moved her to her bed. Once shes in her bed after being asleep she sleeps perfectly fine throughout the night.

That being said; we do NOT think it has ANYTHING to do with the bed. Or maybe I said that too soon, because than there is last night where she didn’t fall asleep until after 10 due to a long late afternoon nap, and then woke up around 230 am and at that point we just gave in and let her sleep in the bed with us the whole night…  But no, for real we’re pretty sure the reason shes waking up has to do with teething and it seems like one of her teeth just poked through. Her whole mouth is actually swollen and looks like a lot of teeth are going to be popping through soon. My poor girl!!!

So as of now, bed time has been a little stressful and tiring for us all. We’re still trying to find what works best. Normally when in the crib; we rocked her and put her right in her crib still awake. We’re still rocking her but now we’re seeing what works better; putting her in her bed or putting her down after swaying to a song or two and letting her climb in bed and lye down on her own. It’s still early and I know once her pain is gone from the teething she’ll get the hang of it.

She’s still crying in the morning for us to come in and get her but instead of standing in the crib, shes standing right at the door! Which happens to be really cute; but I was hoping maybe she would do a little independent play with her books or dolls that she has in her room. Who knows; maybe in time she’ll do this.

Naps in the bed are non existent. This week has been a busy one so Tanner either has napped while out in the car or in her stroller or even taking late naps on the couch. Hopefully we’ll be able to work on this and have her nap in her bed no problem.

I’ll keep you guys updated on this and if any of you have any questions, or even any advice on how we can get Tanner more comfortable with the whole process please let me know! Shoot me an email or contact me on Facebook or through Instagram!

As always, Thanks for reading! xoxo ♥
